We Need Your Voice!

The California Warm Line's funding will stop taking calls, texts, or chats on July 1, 2025, without your help.

The CA Warm Line has been instrumental in supporting individuals before crises escalate, reducing reliance on emergency services, and providing an alternative that empowers people to seek help on their own terms. Over the years, MHASF has demonstrated unwavering commitment to mental health advocacy and peer-based support, with more than 90% of our staff identifying as having lived experience of mental health challenges.

Your advocacy can make the difference.

"Hello, my name is [Your Name] and I'm a constituent from [Your City/County]. I'm calling to urge [Legislator Name]'s support for continued funding of the California Peer Run Warm Line.

The Warm Line is a critical mental health resource that prevented 14,400 emergency room visits last year alone, saving California taxpayers $93 million. This peer-led service responds to over 100,000 contacts annually from people seeking support before they reach crisis.

Without immediate action, this essential service will shut down on July 1, 2025. I strongly urge [Legislator Name] to support the $20 million annual funding request for the next three fiscal years.

Mental health support is a bipartisan issue that affects all Californians. Will [LEGISLATOR NAME] commit to supporting this vital mental health resource?

[IF LEAVING VOICEMAIL: Please call me back at (Your Phone) to let me know your position on this important issue. Thank you.]"

Subject / Topic: Protect Mental Health Support in California: Save the California Peer-Run Warm Line!

Comment Body (Under 2000 Characters):
As your constituent, I'm writing with deep concern about the future of the California Peer Run Warm Line — a 24/7, peer-led mental health support line that is slated to shut down on July 1, 2025, without renewed state funding.

This line is not just a helpful service — it's a critical part of California's mental health safety net.  I represent one of the over half-a-million calls, texts, and chats that peer counselors from the California Peer Run Warm Line have provided support to since 2019. Every year, it responds to over 100,000 calls, texts, and chats, prevents over 14,000 emergency room visits, and saves the state $93 million annually.

But beyond the numbers, it saves lives. It offers hope. It ensures that people can reach out before they're in crisis — and find support from someone who's been there. The CA Warm Line has helped me, my family, and my friends. We need to make sure it’s there for the next person who needs it. In these times of increasing mental health challenges across our state, eliminating this service would be devastating.

I respectfully urge you to support the funding request of $20 million annually for fiscal years 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28, to ensure this vital resource remains available to all Californians. Mental health support should not be a privilege for the few — it is a right that all Californians deserve.

The CA Warm Line saves lives. Losing it will cost lives. California needs to step up and renew this funding—before it’s too late. More people than ever are reaching out—because mental health struggles don’t wait for office hours.

This is not just about a phone line. It's about dignity. It's about prevention. And it's about honoring the mental health needs of your constituents. Please support this issue and ensure the Warm Line remains available to those who depend on it.

Testimonials

CA Peer Run Warm Line Caller

"I got a lot out of the call; I had a very good person on the other end who listened really well. I felt heard and pleasantly surprised to connect with such a good person. It's a wonderful service for folks looking to express themselves and find a good person on the other end."

CA Peer Run Warm Line Caller

"I've been using the Warm Line for about three years now. One of the first things I noticed is that counselors have compassion and are able to hold space for many conflicting situations. It's improved my personal relationships, and it's a great complement to my therapy. I can't tell you how many nights I haven't been able to sleep, and the Warm Line has helped me so much. I always wonder if it's actually going to help, and it always does."

CA Peer Run Warm Line Caller

"Thanks to your support, I've needed it less, meaning I'm doing better. I wouldn't have made it if I didn't have support from you. Therapy through my support plan — they try. My therapist cuts me off and ends sessions early; I'm not worth remembering. You all have held me together."
